Mantisfly (Campion tenuistrigus)
Half lacewing half mantis. About 10mm long.
Typically starry blue eyes, raptorial forelegs, triangular head, elongated prothorax.
Exploring a broad-leafed acacia in a local nature reserve.(Glenfern Valley)
Good visual match with the CSIRO 'What Bug Is That' link.
Distribution seems to be over all of mainland Australia.
Other names might be... 'Mantispa tenuistriga', 'Mantispa platycephala', 'Mantispilla rubicunda'.

We should concentrate more on Neuroptera insects! From about 6000 species we have only 11 here. Posted 9 years ago, modified 9 years ago
