Tube Spittle bug (Chaetophyes compacta) About 11mm long and wearing a nice green time-trial cycle helmet. <br />
No spines on rear legs which are exposed. There is a leaf hopper which looks almost the same.<br />
They make small tapered calcereous tubes in leaf axils to develop in as nymphs.<br />

Chaetophyes compacta is an Australian species of tube spittlebug. It was described by Walker in 1851.
