Passionfruit, (Passiflora edulis) Mburukuja
Mburukuja (Guarani), maracuja (Tupi, Brasil). One of many passion fruits that grows in Paraguay, and other countries of the Americas. This one in particular is very sour, unlike other varieties that are quite sweet and that one can eat after picking. As all the others, the juice is very fragrant and is used to flavour sweet and savoury dishes. When ripe, the fruit turns yellow. Its is said to be the national flower of Paraguay (undocumented), title which it disputes with "Brunfelsia pauciflora" (documented 1936) with the name of "jazmín azucena del Paraguay".

''Passiflora edulis'' or passion fruit is a vine species of passion flower native to southern Brazil through Paraguay and northern Argentina. It is cultivated commercially in tropical and subtropical areas for its sweet, seedy fruit, commonly called passion fruit.
