Great Potoo and baby This is the most extraordinary example of camouflage I have ever seen - even up close, to say nothing of from a distance, you really cannot distinguish this bird from the trunk and branches of the tree. Our guide said that when she had been at this location in the Pantanal a few months ago, the baby had not been born so this was a real treat. 1. Absolutely stunning, incredible find! Posted 9 years ago
    1. It really was astonishingly wonderful. The day before, from a boat on a river, we saw a Great Potoo up in a tree. It was a quite a distance away and even with pretty decent binoculars, I never would have known he was there had not the guide patiently helped me find him. To see a mother and baby from just a few yards away a couple of days later was really a gift. Posted 9 years ago
  2. Lovely shot. It's really difficult to distinguish them from dead branches and tree bark. Posted 9 years ago

The great potoo is a bird, both the largest potoo species and the largest member of the order Caprimulgiformes. It occurs in tropical America.
