Big fight of the small world This behavior pictured here what looks like some passionate moments is not so. It was a very fierce battle between
the ants. They were fighting with all their strength, each trying to push the other. The bigger guy was pushing the smaller guy more. We were totally confused on what was happening!! There were no other ants in the vicinity.
After walking a few hundred meters saw many heads of small ants. Saw couple of big guys carrying heads of the smaller ants as well. Then we realised it was an invasion!! We couldnt find the actual scene, probably it was over some time back.
Shooting an action sequence at macro level was a challenge, shooting macro against light was another challenge, happy that i managed to make a good image! Black garden ant,Lasius niger, ants, ants life, fight, india, invasion, macro, post monsoon, war, western ghats, wild Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

 1. You captured it very well indeed, they are so hard to photograph. Love the extensive description, brutal as they are, ant societies are absolutely fascinating. Posted 9 years ago

The black garden ant is a formicine ant, the type species of the subgenus ''Lasius'', found all over Europe and in some parts of North America and Asia. It is monogynous, meaning colonies have a single queen.
