Spiral Wheep or Wire Coral It is a red hard coral that curls on itself in spirals like a cord. <br />
Seen in the area of Sihanoukville, Cambodia (May, 2011).<br />
It can be found in the Pacific:<br />

  1. Stichopathes lutkeni is found in the West Central Atlantic ocean, it's probably not the same species in Cambodia.

It is a coral of the family Antipathidae. The wire coral is an anthipatharia formed by an unbranched branch, twisting into a corkscrew like a barbed wire. It can reach a spectacular size up to 4.5m in length. The tentacles of the polyps are very long giving the appearance of a bottle brush. The colors are variable going from yellow to brown, passing through green or red.
