
Pygmy pipefish (Micrognathus_pygmaeus)

Up to 6 cm (2 1/4 inch.). Snout is short. Skin flaps abasent except for tiny flaps on head. Tiny tail. Brown with about 10 narrow whitish saddles on back and upper side. Solitary and cryptic.
Habitat: Inside caves and crevices of coastal lagoons and outer reefs to 10 m. Indo Pacific.

The Thorntail Pipefish is one of the smallest pipefishes known. In Australia, the species has previously been known as Micrognathus brevirostris which is a Red Sea endemic.
