Harlequin Crab (Lissocarcinus_laevis)
Seen in Dauin, Philippines (Oct 2, 2012).
Small swimmer crab (the last pair of legs is modified in a fin). Smooth carapace, with a pattern of reddich and white large stains. White, almost transparent legs. White eyes. Carapace lenght 4 cm. Quite similar to Lissocarcinus orbicularis, but it is larger, reddish in colour and never associated with holoturians.
Always in association with sea anemones: Actinodendron spp., Actinostephanus haeckeli, Cerianthus spp.
In this area I saw them often inside Ceranthid sp. tube anemones.
Lissocarcinus laevis, the Harlequin Crab, has a reddish shell covered with large white blotches. Its legs are semi-transparent whiteand its eyes are white. It is found in association with sea anemones.
