A Cedros Island Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma cerroense), far from Cedros Island

The Cedros Island Horned Lizard occurs on both Isla Cedros and throughout central Baja California and Baja California Sur. Because of recent taxonomic research, the species boundaries between those populations formerly recognized as the Coast Horned Lizard are not well-defined and research is needed to detail their contact zones.
