Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly
These have been becoming more and more common over the past couple of years near coastal areas of Maine as well as mud flats and open fields. Next to large gardens, the highest concentration of these I've seen has been near mud pools on a local golf course.
The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is a species of swallowtail butterfly native to North America. It is one of the most familiar butterflies in the eastern United States, where it is common in many different habitats. It flies from spring to fall, during which it produces two to three broods.
