False_Grayling-Arethusana_arethusa One of my favourite places to 'hunt' insects was a lake I baptized l'étang des moustiques- the mozzie lake.
I found loads of herbs, butterflies and dragons there.
Three months before we left they drained the lake, bulldozed the sides and conreted the access. Just to make the 'sport' of fishing easier for the few idiots who 'needed' that. It was one of the best habitats for the protected large blue. Yes I tried my best but it was hopeless. 1. Sorry to hear that! I hate this tendency to "develop" every piece of land. Was this in France? Posted 9 years ago
    1. Yes. Sorry forgot the geotag.
I was devastated. Still got a long correspondence between the Parc Régional du Périgord Vert and me.. about the quarry that swallowed the wild orchids and more butterfly habitats and the lake.
That is the one thing that is definitly better here, they live of their natural diversity and the tourist trade so they want the nature to stay.

The wingspan is 44–48 mm and the length of the forewings is 21–25 mm. Adults are on wing from July to September.

The larvae feed on various grasses, including ''Festuca'', ''Bromus erectus'',.. more
