accipiter by a remote lowland track
We went exploring some remote tracks today and I ws lucky enough to get this small raptor.
Unfortunately I'm not really sure what he is. Rupornis magnirostris or buteo magnirostris might be it but in spite of Carlos' great book he is tricky, he might be a juvenile so I get confused.
Edit... Another hour searching and I think it is Buteo platypterus
The broad-winged hawk is a small hawk of the genus "Buteo". During the summer, some subspecies are distributed over eastern North America, as far west as British Columbia and Texas; they then migrate south to winter in the Neotropics from Mexico south to southern Brazil.
