Stoic White Lion Cub, Kruger National Park, South Africa
Having been tracking a particular pride of lions for about a week, we struck gold when we spotted them on a hunt one night, and then had a remarkable accidental run-in with them again the next day, as the pride rested in the long grass by these rocks. There was a lot of talk about this pride because of its absolutely unique member: a three year old white male cub, one of only eight in the entire national park. When we stumbled upon the resting pride, luck was on my side, as the white cub was laying out on the rocks, in a perfect line of sight. This was one of my most tranquil moments photographing. The cub simply stared at me for the longest time as I took my pictures. Looking into each other's eyes, there was a very real moment there, where I felt in touch with everything around me, and truly felt like I was a part of the nature I had come to see. It's impossible for words to do it justice, so please, have a look for yourself.

The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
