  1. I looked through Glaw & Vences and it looks like this is Phelsuma guttata. The description includes "Head small and long. Back green or grayish (without median stripe); flanks and sometimes backs with dark vermiculite ones, back often with red spots. A dark band from nostril through eye to neck above ear opening. Three dark chevrons on the throat are always present." There are a few other Phelsuma species recorded from Masoala but this is the only one that seems to closely match your photo. (I am assuming that the stripes visible on the throat are chevrons.) Posted 9 years ago
    1. Thank you so much for all that effort! Seems like it was the same species as the one found on Nosy Mangabe:

Speckled Day Gecko, Nosy Mangabe, Madagascar Found during a night walk. You can see it has found a pretty good shelter. Identification based on this reference:<br />

I had compared it to that, but the angle is too different to get a clear comparison.

      1. I think this new photo is even clearer than that other one, because of the stripes/chevrons visible on the throat. That's a species I didn't see on my visits. I'll have to go back! Posted 9 years ago
