  1. Hi Annette, that can't be a Scrub Euphonia, as males of the species have an all-dark throat. If I'm not mistaken, only two species of Euphonia have a yellow throat in CR, namely Thick-billed and Yellow-throated. Considering the small yellow crown patch on your bird, I think it's the latter. The yellow-throated euphonia is a species of bird in the Fringillidae family. It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Maharashtra.

The yellow-throated euphonia is a small 10 cm long bird. Like most male euphonias, it is primarily dark blue above and yellow below. They can easily be confused for other euphonia species that share their range. The male of this species is distinguished by the combination of a yellow.. more
