Night owl with large cicada as prey, Masoala, Madagascar
Unfortunately, this owl never turned around to face me, so this is the only shot I have of it. It looks it has some prey, likely a cicada. Spotted during a night tour in Masoala, Madagascar.
Note: will double check the species ID with an expert.

The rainforest scops owl is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is found in a large part of eastern Madagascar, but the exact distribution limits between it and the Torotoroka scops owl, with which it was long considered conspecific, require further study. The natural habitat of the rainforest scops owl is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
