  1. As a dutchman, I have to ask, what does "dutch" refer to in this case? Posted 9 years ago
    1. "Black Dutch" is the name of the specific breed of rabbit (which I only knew because of the sign nearby at the zoo).

      I only read a little on them, but I didn't see any details about why they're called Dutch rabbits (except that it isn't because of their origin, because they were originally bred in England).

The European Rabbit or Common Rabbit is a species of rabbit native to south west Europe and north west Africa. It has been widely introduced elsewhere often with devastating effects on local biodiversity. However, its decline in its native range has caused the decline of its highly dependent predators, the Iberian Lynx and the Spanish Imperial Eagle.
