Leaf-tailed geckos spend their days resting facing down on trees, like this:

At night though, they reveal their true nature, that of a skilled and creepy hunter. To add to the frightening appearance, this one seems to have a busted eye. Side view:

It does seem to be blind in its right eye, perhaps from an accident or a natural forming cataract. Great capture! His good left eye is amazing! Posted 9 years ago

  It really hope it isn't blind, but it's quite likely. They are very skilled hunters though, and have no predators I know of. Posted 9 years ago, modified 9 years ago

The Common flat-tail gecko

"Uroplatus fimbriatus" is a gecko which is found in eastern Madagascar and on the islands Nosy Bohara and Nosy Mangabe. These geckos live in tropical rain forests. They reach a total length of 330 mm.

A large nocturnal gecko, by day it plasters itself to a small tree trunk and rests head down. If disturbed it will raise its tail and head, open its mouth and scream.
