Father's Affection
The Male Night Frog (Nyctibatrachus sp.) is found in western ghats streams guarding its clutch of eggs. One can see eggs in different stages. The male calls for females who visit the and lay their eggs. The male show parental care by protecting its clutch from other males. The clutch is always found overhanging the streams.
''Nyctibatrachus petraeus'' is a species of frog in the Nyctibatrachidae family endemic to the Western Ghats, India.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and rivers. It is threatened by habitat loss.
