Papilio thoas- mariposa de los naranjos Here you can see clearly the difference between him and the papilio cresphontes. Look at the white bar with a confetti punched out, then at the white bits above it. These here are round like bit of rice, the cresphontes has more edgy ones.<br />
Also you can tell for sure that those only appear when the mandarins are on their way out and the sweet lime have made fresh shoots. That is when you find the caterpillars hanging from the trees. "Papilio thoas" is a butterfly of the family Papilionidae. It is found in the southernmost United States, Mexico, Central America and South America. The species is easily confused with the giant swallowtail, which it closely resembles in both larval and adult stages.
