Alkali Flies
These flies are quite remarkable in many senses: To just pick one out several interesting facts and one I could see with my own eyes: these flies can go in and out underwater! Yes, this is because tiny hairs trap a thin layer of air which allows the fly to "scuba dive." Their name also raises from the fact that they live in particularly salty habitats. They are a primordial food source for all the birdies in this and alike lakes, ponds and salines.

''Ephydra hians'', common name the alkali fly, is a species of fly in the family Ephydridae, the brine flies.
