The Tiny Gem
A beautiful frog species that was on my list since I started photographing these little gems of the Western Ghats. It was my first journey to southern part of the Ghats. It was my first longest one as well, a travel time of close to 16 hours!!
It was windy, raining intermittently and very misty. Every frog I got was new to me, as most of them are found only in this range. As i was exploring saw this little froglet resting on the edge of the broad leaf. It was so beautiful. I was just admiring its beauty. I called Umesh to show him and confirm the Id. After a confirming he asked me did you take photo? only then i realised i was with my camera and started photographing it. It was very tough to get a decent image. This is the best i could manage. He was very tiny, about half the size our little finger nail. He must have been very young!!

''Raorchestes chalazodes'' is a species of frog in the Rhacophoridae family. It is endemic to the Western Ghats of India. The specific name ''chalazodes'' is composed of the Greek word ''chalaza'' meaning grain and ''odes'' for the derived adjective, reflecting white granulation of the body. Using 'chalazodes' in the common name, as if it were a proper noun, is probably a misinterpretation.
