Megascolia maculata Megascolia maculata, male at left, female right. The difference size between is overwhelming. even thou the male abdomen seems long is quite smaller in overall size/volume when compared to female gender. After publishing one photo, i realize that was important to make a full review of this moment, that led me to capture a few dozen frames to keep them on sight, and to share them as great moments of working in the field, great memories on photos, precious observation data, as what they are. 1. Indeed very cool that you have them in one frame! When seeing them apart, it would be far harder to make a conclusion on size. Posted 9 years ago

The mammoth wasp, Megascolia maculata flavifrons, is a very large wasp (the largest in Europe), with the female reaching up to 6 centimetres (2.4 in), whereas the male is smaller. The species can be seen in warm weather, from May to September.
