Northern/White-belted black-and-white ruffed lemur, Nosy Mangabe, Madagascar
Our first view of this White-belted black-and-white ruffed lemur, a sub species of the black-and-white ruffed lemur. This sub species can be recognized by its white belt (not visible on this photo) below its shoulders, even easier to see is the brown color of its main coat.
This is one of two lemur species found on the island of Nosy Mangabe, the other being the White-fronted brown lemur, which unfortunately we did not see.
All sub species of the black-and-white ruffed lemur are endangered or critically endangered due to a sharp decline in available habitat.

The Northern black-and-white ruffed lemur, also called the White-belted black-and-white ruffed lemur, is one of three subspecies of the Black-and-white ruffed lemur. It is found furthest to the north of the three subspecies.
