Nosy Mangabe, a tropical island to ourselves From Maroantsetra, it is a 30 minute boat fair to this island, Nosy Mangabe (not to be confused with Nosy Be). It has no permanent settlement, only tourists visiting every now and then. When we arrived, the only tourists on the island were leaving, which means it was just us, a park ranger, a guide and a cook.

We spent one day and night here, and did 3 walks, basically all day long. The island is known for two lemurs, the white-belted black-and-white ruffed lemur and the white-fronted brown lemur. It has very few birds, yet all the more frogs and reptiles.
