Elaphocordyceps ophioglossoides
At first I thought these were earth tongues - but the pimply surface doesn't fit those at all. This one is a parasite on a truffle/puffball like fungus (not an edible one though).
Aside.. spotting things. Very often my husband asks me how I see these things. Really, I'm not sure what made me stop for these. They are quite small and from standing height they looked very much like the decayed stalks of old mushrooms that had blackened and mostly melted away, but something, and I'm really not sure what seemed different about this one so I stopped walking and bent down to look. Indeed they were not just debris, but something interesting.

"Tolypocladium ophioglossoides", also known by two of its better known synonyms "Elaphocordyceps ophioglossoides" and "Cordyceps ophioglossoides" and commonly known as the goldenthread cordyceps, is a species of fungus in the family Ophiocordycipitaceae. It is parasitic on fruit bodies of the truffle-like "Elaphomyces".
