  1. For my understanding, what does this obelisk position mean? Posted 9 years ago
    1. Hi, fchristant, dragonflies tend to adopt this posture (obelisk posture/position) as a strategy to loose heat, by reducing the exposed area of their bodies over the sun to prevent overheating. In this posture they also become less active. This position orients the dragonfly’s abdomen directly to the sun, therefore reducing its body area exposed. 1. Thank you, that's very smart. Only a week ago when I was still in Madagascar, I saw a dragonfly do this excessively, now I know why. Posted 9 years ago

The Northern Banded Groundling is a small dragonfly of African origin which, in Europe, only occurs in a few scattered areas.
