  1. Great shot, Would love to see one of these. Posted 9 years ago
    1. Thank you Ant. I bit difficult to chase - they fly long distances and stay on one place only for a couple of seconds... usually low in the vegetation. And while in rest never keep the wings open. Posted 9 years ago, modified 9 years ago
      1. I was wondering how you made the difference between the species, they look very similar from this side of the wings? Posted 9 years ago
        1. Yes, you are right. They are almost identical. I myself very much hesitated when determining the species. What made me believe after browsing couple of hours huge amount of images is the color of the central part of the downside of the front wings. I do not know whether this is crucial for determining the species, but it is more yellowish (C.sareptensis), while C.croceus is more orange-yellow (the orange color of the upperside is protruding a bit), and C.hyale is more paler. In any case I cannot be 100% sure. Posted 9 years ago
          1. I don't know, it could be just the reflection of the light. The main difference is that C. croceus has more black on the upper side of the hind wings. In males it is plain dark while females have paler spots. It is best to have the light passing through the wings to see if it is dark or not. In this case, it may be my imagination, but I see some brighter yellow spots on the hind wings. There is a chance that this may be a female C. croceus.

            1. Yes, it could be. I still need some further investigation. But without the view of the upperside of the wings it should be quite difficult to definitely determine the species! Posted 9 years ago
