
The Carolina grasshopper, a large bandwinged species, ranges widely in North America inhabiting weedy grasslands. Blowouts, field margins, roadside strips, weedy fence rows, railway cuttings, and disturbed rangeland support moderate populations of this species.

The yellow band in the wings as it flew reminded me of your suggestion for this guy:
And photo #2 from the page you referenced looks nearly identical to my photo...

However, #2 is a Carolina grasshopper, which also has yellow in the wings, but at the edges instead of near the body... which fits more closely to what I observed. Posted 9 years ago
