Evening gossip -- Ashy wood swallow - Artamus fuscus
Ashy wood swallows are one of the common passerines that is found the south asia. They are usually in small groups perching on tall clear structures like bare trees. They hunt and feed on small insects.
The tree on which these birds are perched is in the middle of a small pond. They were group of 4, the last year when we saw they were only 2. Good to see the increase in the numbers!!
As the sun was setting the birds, one after the other came and huddled. The 4th one seemed to be still hungry he was behind a butterfly. Spent some good time filming these birds in the evening light.
The ashy woodswallow sometimes also called the ashy swallow-shrike is a woodswallow which is found in south Asia. Like other woodswallows, it has a short curve bill and a short square tail and long wings. It is usually seen perched in groups, high on powerlines, tall bare trees and most often in areas with a predominance of tall palm trees.
