  1. Great shot, always wanted a pic like this very jealous. They are hard to find never mind photograph in the UK. Posted 10 years ago
    1. I cheated. We were in a bird watching house with sunflower seeds strategically placed into a staged scene. Posted 10 years ago
      1. Never heard of a bird watching house before, is it like a Butterfly farm where they are in room size cages? Posted 10 years ago
        1. lol - no they can be permanent shacks built on bird sanctuary land with little slits for viewing/photographing or even portable tent/tarp like structures. Here's a big one - http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/38542?feat=512581-CL2&page=doghouse-portable-blind&attrValue_0=RealTree%20Extra&productId=600472 Some people just wear a camo- suit and stay very still (I think Jivko has one)
Duck hunters use these as well. We usually call them bird blinds here.

          1. Ahhh you mean a hide, we have bird hides in all our nature reserves and I've even considered buying a pop-up hide. In the UK a bird house would be an aviary. Posted 10 years ago
            1. Yes, a hide I mean. Bird house is not the proper english word :) Posted 10 years ago
              1. But its not cheating (in my opinion) if its a wild free flying bird. Posted 9 years ago
                1. Definitely true, I was exaggerating a little. It is cheating in the sense that they are lured by food and water. Posted 9 years ago
  2. Wherever you were at, it is a great shot! very well executed! Posted 10 years ago

The hawfinch is a passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. Its closest living relatives are the evening grosbeak from North America and the hooded grosbeak from Central America especially Mexico.
