Common pug moth caterpillar (Eupithecia miserulata) on black-eyed susan (Rudbeckia) While walking through my garden, I noticed this odd looking caterpillar with "arrows" on its back munching on my black-eyed susans. While walking through my garden, I noticed this odd looking caterpillar with "arrows" on its back munching on my black-eyed susans. I have never heard of a common pug moth before but now I will definitely be on the look out for it.

  1. Eupithecia vulgata is found in the Palearctic ecozone. This should be Eupithecia miserulata.

The Common Eupithecia "Eupithecia miserulata" is a moth of the family Geometridae. The species can be found in North America, from Ontario and Maine in the north to Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas in the south. It is also found in Arizona and California.
