  1. Beautiful portrait. Poor bird, probably the most laughed about in the whole bird kingdom, to English speakers anyway, I doubt if it translates quite the same in other languages. Rather like Boobies!! Posted 10 years ago
    1. Being not a native english speaker, I too was shocked about its name when I first read the english version. It certainly deserves better. In dutch it's "koolmees", where "kool" refers to chalk (burned wood), indicating its black head. Posted 10 years ago

The Great Tit is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae. It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central and Northern Asia, and parts of North Africa in any sort of woodland. It is generally resident, and most Great Tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters.
