  2. It was suggested that I send the ring details on this bird to the bird ringing unit at Cape Town University which I did. Turns out this bird was initially ringed (rung?) in 2008 close by. So fantastic to know that it is still safe and well 7 years later! Posted 10 years ago

The African oystercatcher or African black oystercatcher, is a large charismatic wader resident to the mainland coasts and offshore islands of southern Africa. This near-threatened oystercatcher has a population of over 6,000 adults, which breed between November and April.
