  1. Nice shot Garry! I've had the pleasure of one of these beasts on my arm during a falconry day. I was told that they have a special serrated wing which means they can swoop down on unsuspecting prey without making a sound! Very cool indeed and lighter than expected - just big fluffballs :) Posted 10 years ago
    1. Thanks Stuart! I've held one a couple of times, truly magnificent birds. I think a lot of owls have that ability like the Barn owl and the Snowy owl for example.

  2. I was watching something where they used rather sensitive equipment to record the sound of an owl (I think it was a barn owl maybe?) flying, vs a pigeon. It was quite amazing how incredibly silent the owl really was. Posted 10 years ago
    1. Yes i saw that! Sure there was another bird as well. It was a barn owl...when it flew over the feathers they virtually did not move at all, where as the pigeon and other bird completely stirred them up in to the air. And yes there were also sound test showing how quiet the owl is compared to the other birds. Posted 10 years ago

The Eurasian eagle-owl is a species of eagle-owl resident in much of Eurasia. It is sometimes called the European eagle-owl and is, in Europe, where it is the only member of its genus besides the snowy owl, occasionally abbreviated to just eagle-owl.
