Lake of the Angels Though this lovely alpine lake isn't terribly far from a road, it's still relatively lightly visited. It's a difficult 4 mile hike to reach the cirque, on a very steep and often loose and gravelly trail. Then there is the headwall... while it's technically a scramble (so it can be done without ropes or other specialized equipment) I did leave my pack below the last headwall section, as I did not think I would feel comfortable coming down that part, with (for short 5' me) it's limited hand and foot holds and necessity to turn around at one point. The nice part - we had the lake all to our selves and only ran across a few people on the trail the entire day. Geotagged,Summer,United States Click/tap to enlarge

  1. Beautiful place! It makes me wonder if you ever considered astrophotography? Posted 10 years ago
    1. yeah - but even as much as we hike, for a few reasons, we don't camp much, so I'm not in these places after dark too often. The last time we were it was a full moon - great for moon shots, but a bit bright for stars. Posted 10 years ago
