Winged Aphid(?) in grass, Netherlands I&#039;m happy with the photo for this creature being so tiny and the wind moving the grass, but have yet no idea what it is. I assume it is some kind of aphid. Size is perhaps 3 or 4mm.<br />

  1. Psocoptera seems like a good match, it doesn't look like an aphid anyway.
    Here's a nice close-up.

  2. @WildFlower is very close! It is either a Psocoptera, or a Psocid.

    1. Thank you, those look quite similar indeed! Posted 9 years ago
  3. I've added the ID as Stenopsocus immaculatus. This one has the typical colour/markings for that species so it should be okay. In theory there is some discussion on how to tell this one and Stenopsocus lachlani apart (normally much darker), as both are variable. One criterium is measuring the eyes, but even that fails at times. IMHO I wouldn't be surprised if the two are just different forms of the same species, caused by development on different hosts (immauculatus on broad leaf, lachlani on conifers) Posted 8 years ago
    1. That's impressive, you give me hope for some of my photos which I imagined would never be identified :) Posted 8 years ago
