  1. I am pretty sure this is a very young Basiliscus vittatus. Older individuals would have longer snouts, but the white stripe on the upper lip, whitish chin, thin white dorsolateral stripe, and general body plan all point towards this species. (I am using Julian C. Lee's "The Amphibians and Reptiles of the Yucatán Peninsula" to browse all known lizard species from this area.) Posted 9 years ago

The Brown Basilisk or Striped Basilisk is one species of basilisk lizard. They are native to Mexico, Central America and adjacent northwestern Colombia, but have been introduced into the U.S. state of Florida as a feral species.

Along with the Common Basilisk they have the nickname "Jesus Lizard" because when fleeing from a predator, they are very fast and can even run on top of the water.
