  1. Here's the backside of that leaf:

Grasshopper plague in the Amazon I was walking right pass this plant at the lodge area where we stayed in the Amazon, and somebody had to point me to the backside of it before I even noticed the swarm of grasshoppers rapidly pulverizing it. 2. I don't like to see them eating away those plants, but the grasshoper itself looks very nice and colourfull indeed. Posted 13 years ago
  3. I was wondering which species this was.
After some searching I found the closest match to be the nymph of the Tropidacris Collaris, like pictured here: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ucksmucks/3369688793/

This grasshopper specie is one the biggest grasshoppers around reaching a length of 10cm.

    1. Wow, that was a tough ID, it's not even on wikipedia. Excellent work, and great that you are directly editing the tags, the process is much quicker that way.

On a side note, human behavior can somewhat be compared to what these grasshoppers do: exploit all available resources and then move on.
