Grasshopper eating leaf at Amazon

Tropidacris Collaris, one of the largest grasshoppers in existence. It's quite a colorful one at that, like an alien soldier. Look closely around this photo to find at least three more :)

I was wondering which species this was.
After some searching I found the closest match to be the nymph of the Tropidacris Collaris, like pictured here: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ucksmucks/3369688793/

This grasshopper specie is one the biggest grasshoppers around reaching a length of 10cm. Posted 13 years ago

  Wow, that was a tough ID, it's not even on wikipedia. Excellent work, and great that you are directly editing the tags, the process is much quicker that way.
  
  On a side note, human behavior can somewhat be compared to what these grasshoppers do: exploit all available resources and then move on. Posted 13 years ago
