Saved from drowning Saw this in a bowl of water outside - pulled it out but unfortunately it looks like her wing was damaged and she couldn&#039;t fly any more :(<br />

    1. Yeah - I think there's something wrong with me. A person drowning I'd probably leave (not a fantastic swimmer) yet a nice bug drowning or in trouble, I feel I have to help. Unless it's a wasp. I'd happily let that drown :-/ Posted 10 years ago

"Episyrphus balteatus", sometimes called the marmalade hoverfly, is a relatively small hoverfly of the Syrphidae family, widespread throughout the Palaearctic region, which covers Europe, North Asia, and North Africa.
