English Sundew These are much smaller than I expected - it would be quite easy to walk by without ever seeing them unless you are looking carefully. I came to this area specifically to see if I could find sundews and indeed whole meadow was quite covered, but until I got down on my hands and knees I didn't even notice them. 1. That's a great field tip, because I still want to find my first! They'd be amazing macro subjects. Posted 10 years ago
  2. I have never seen one and didn't even realise they could be found in Europe. Fascinating plants. Posted 10 years ago
  3. I was surprised too to see them in the list of Washington plants. I've always thought of carnivorous plants and being more of a tropical (or at least warmer weather - no freezing) thing, and only suitable for indoor terrariums in this climate, but these guys live quite happily up in the mountains. They do grow in wet, boggy areas, and had this been a more normal year (it's been pretty hot and dry) I might have gotten a bit wet to get photos. Even so the ground was a bit squishy - and these plants look pretty healthy - a stressed sundew won't make the little drops of sticky mucous on it's leaves. Posted 10 years ago

''Drosera anglica'', commonly known as the English sundew or great sundew, is a carnivorous plant species belonging to the sundew family Droseraceae. It is a temperate species with a generally circumboreal range, although it does occur as far south as Japan, southern Europe, and the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaiʻi, where it grows as a subtropical sundew.
