Tipula oleracea resting on leaf
A relatively large and scary-looking insect that is completely harmless. In this adult stage, they will only live for a few days, and barely eat anything, if they do it is nectar. They're also slow, clumsy in flying and try to avoid any contact with anything during the day.
Or, as the dutch saying goes, "barking dogs don't bite".

''Tipula oleracea'' is a species of cranefly which is found throughout the Palaearctic and Nearctic.
