The Candy Stripe Spider in the kitchen! It abseiled down as I was getting a drink. Would this be a standard garden spider? It abseiled down as I was getting a drink. Would this be a standard garden spider? It looks different to the other ones I've taken pictures of and identified using this site, google searches etc. It is approximately 2.5cm in size.

  2. Hi Claire - nice find! thank you. I believe that is the correct spider. There are some black spots on both. It seems that they are not quite as pronounced on the spider I saw as other images but everything else looks the same :)

    If I see it again in the kitchen, I'll try get an abdomen shot of the spots.

"Enoplognatha ovata" is a species of spider belonging to the family Theridiidae. It is native to Europe and has also been introduced to North America.
