Myrmica Rubra out for a walk Saw this little lady out in the garden just wandering about. She wasn't even bothered with the abundance of Lasius Niger Queen ants that were flying around and landing in front of her. These ants are meant to be fairly aggressive however I have yet to witness this for myself. Perhaps that will change over time! Myrmica rubra Click/tap to enlarge

  1. Stuart, just as an idea: since you're basically sharing a story across multiple photos, you can maybe gives lists a try:

It works very simple: on any photo, use the "add to list" link in the brown navigation bar. From there, you can start a new list or add a photo to one of your existing lists. It's most useful for grouping things together that belong to a specific specialized topic. For general grouping, tags can be used.

    1. Sounds like an excellent idea. I will certainly do this going forwards to keep things neat and tidy. Posted 10 years ago

''Myrmica rubra'', also known as the European fire ant or common red ant, is a species of ant of the genus ''Myrmica'', found all over Europe and in some parts of North America and Asia. They are mainly red in colour, with slightly darker pigmentation on the head. The ants live under stones, fallen trees, and in soil. They are aggressive ants, often attacking rather than running away, and are equipped with a stinger, though lack the ability to spray formic acid like the genus ''Formica''.
