  1. Beautiful spider, great shot! Posted 10 years ago
    1. Thanks Claire :) Yes, it is a pretty one. Many people (myself included until recently) would shy away from spiders but they do seem to have some beautiful colours and patterns on them. Just a pity they always introduce themselves at the most inopportune times! *Surprise!!* at 03:00 as you're waking up and see it on the wall above your bed. Posted 10 years ago
      1. I think it is when you start to photograph them and see all their beauty close up, you appreciate them more. But yes, 3am surprises not good, neither is walking into a web and not knowing exactly where the little critter is! Posted 10 years ago
  2. Great shot Stuart ... I just love the pinkish background ... makes spiders look so loving and gentle. Like you would just go up to it at 3am and give it a little morning kiss. Posted 10 years ago
  3. Thank you very much :) - I'll tell it you offered to kiss it in the night/early morning ;) Posted 10 years ago

The spider species "Araneus diadematus" is commonly called the European garden spider, diadem spider, orangie, cross spider and crowned orb weaver. It is sometimes called the pumpkin spider, although this name is also used for a different species, "Araneus marmoreus". It is an orb-weaver spider found in Europe and North America.
