    1. Thanks Ferdy. I am fortunate in that I live right next to an internationally important wetlands area which is rich in bird life including migratory birds. I only found birding about three years ago so I am somewhat of a novice on a learning curve. Posted 10 years ago

The hoary-headed grebe is a member of the grebe family found in Australia and Tasmania. The bird takes its name from the silvery-white streaking on its black head. It is common in Australia, with a population of about 500,000. Its habitat is similar to that of the Australasian grebe.
