    1. Though the flowers seem to resemble an onion, I'm fairly certain that these are not alliums. There is no match even close in the local plant databases and in person they don't look nearly as much like an onion as they do a rush or sedge. It's super common, but so far I've not found it listed in any wildflower lists. Posted 10 years ago
      1. It sure fooled me. What appears to be pink/purple petals are in fact stigmas.

''Juncus mertensianus'' is a species of rush known by the common name Mertens' rush. It is native to much of western North America from Alaska to Saskatchewan to New Mexico, where it grows in wet mountainous areas such as riverbanks and alpine meadows. This is a clumping perennial herb growing from a vertical rhizome. Its smooth, flat stems grow to a maximum height near 40 centimeters. Its few leaves are located at the base and also along the stem. The inflorescence is made up of usually one cluster.. more
