  1. I think this is another species of Flameback, but I am not sure which one, you should check the stripes on the neck to see which one matches best. Posted 10 years ago
    1. I think it is the white-naped woodpecker, it matches with my birds book exactly. Posted 10 years ago
      1. I don't know about your book, but the references I find about this bird don't match. It has V-shaped black stripes on the wings with whitw in the middle.

        What about the Himalayan Flameback?
        Maybe the location could help.

        1. Upon a closer look, I think you're right. Trying again, I'm pretty sure this is a Lesser Goldenback.

Edit: re-identified it, but it turns out Lesser Goldenback is a synonym of Black-rumped flameback. So I believe the original ID was correct.

          1. Ant Marriott has a better suggestion. Posted 10 years ago
  2. Thanks all for assisting to iD it. The location is Kabini in southern India. It's a flame back, it is known by different names according to Wikipedia! Posted 10 years ago
    1. Yes, but there are several species of flamebacks, we're trying to figure out which one it is :) Posted 10 years ago
      1. In my opinion this is a Greater Flameback, my reasons are bright yellow eye, the eye stripe turning into a large black streak down the neck and the scaling at the base of the hind neck. Posted 10 years ago
        1. I think you are absolutely right, you're the birds expert. I was only looking at the Dinopium sp. and none of them matched exactly and the range doesn't match either. Somehow I missed this one. It's your right to identify it. Posted 10 years ago
          1. Thanks but I don't want any accolades for IDing it, there are quite a few Flamebacks with very subtle differences they can be difficult sometimes. Its Woosters photo he should have the credit. Posted 10 years ago, modified 10 years ago
        2. Thank you Ant, and I trust that that is the right ID. You can go ahead and identify it as such, it's a normal process to do this on photos on others if you're sure enough. Posted 10 years ago
