Goliath Heron
A true giant of a bird standing just short of 1.5m (nearly as tall as the wife) the bill is the size of a large carving knife. I really wanted a shot with something else in to give perspective to its size but the mangrove leaves behind are approx 75-100mm long.
The Goliath Heron , also known as the Giant Heron, is a very large wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae. It is found in sub-Saharan Africa, with smaller numbers in Southwest and South Asia.
