
Desert Life is Tough!
View at full size to get an idea what these mule deer go through to survive in the harsh desert environment. The scares are not just from cactus they are probably from close calls with bobcats and coyotes. Mountain Lions are present but a deer would not escape from its attack.
The mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) is a deer indigenous to western North America; it is named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. Two subspecies of mule deer are grouped into the black-tailed deer.
